ESTRELLA AND JAN

Jan Banks had never ridden before she met us either. Jan also started out by leasing Venus, who taught her the basics of horse – human communication. Jan watched me start Estrella and was drawn to this little mare. Estrella has an abiding trust in people and only wanted to be loved in return. I’d never met a filly who was as sensible and self-confident. From birth, she had the temperament of a lead mare. If there was a leadership vacuum, Estrella would happily step up and take charge, yet if you were assertive, she would just as happily follow your lead. There was very little that frightened Estrella and she loved to be ridden. Once I was sure that Estrella and Jan were both ready, Jan leased Estrella for a year and a half before she took the plunge and became a horse owner. Since then, their relationship has deepened until Jan doesn’t know what she would do if she ever lost her Estrella.
